RipTide Reef opens on the former location of and behind White Lightnin'. Riptide Reef includes two major slides, the wavepool, and a few kiddy slides.

Gauntlet(Now Airtime!) swings into Carowinds with tons of fun, it is a Chance Falling Star type ride.

1991
The Paladium is renovated increasing the seating cap. to 13,000 people, it is now a separate part of the park and is no longer free to anyone. The Speedway Cars close forever at the end of the season.

With only standing room left, Vortex whirls you into two inversions and several twists and wild turns while standing up. Paramount purchases the park halfway through the summer.

1993
Viacom buys Carowinds, and it becomes Paramount's Carowinds. The first new ride is Days Of Thunder, a simulator ride, it is now known as Paramount Action F/X Theatre, and no longer shows Days Of Thunder. Meteorite is moved to the back side of Carowinds.

Waynes's World now known as Thrill Zone opens behind the Carolina Cylone adding the Hurler, a wooden triple out and back, The Rock Shop, and Stan Mikita's a restaurant. Meteorite is renamed Scream Weaver.

Hanna-Barbera Land is renamed to Animation Station and the Power Station and Low Voltage which was removed in 2002 were added. Other things include one side of Thunder Road running backwards, and the Skycoaster opens at the back of Wayne's World.

A 160 foot tall tower is constructed next to the Hurler. This tower is the Carolinas' one and only free fall. Drop Zone:Stunt Tower, The names says it all.

RipTide Reef doubles in size, and is renamed to the WaterWorks. Two slides were added The Wipeout!(replaced Racing Rivers) and The Tidal Wave. Also the Carolina Pipeline is renamed the Abyss. The park is 97 acres.

Zoom Zone opens behind Scooby-Doo's Ghoster Coaster, the area includes the Taxi Jam, Road Rally, and Chopper Chase. James Bond:License to Thrill video replaces the old Days Of Thunder video.

Top Gun:The Jet Coaster replaces the Wild Bull bayern curve ride. Top Gun is a 115 foot tall six inversion inverted rollercoaster from B&M.
